We all love to have a bit of a healthy glow during the summer, but too much sun exposure leads to big problems down the line include spots, wrinkles, fine lines, and potentially more dangerous things like melanomas. This summer, keep your skin happy and healthy by following these simple tips.
- Wear sunscreen!
Sure, the smell is annoying and it can feel oily, but it’s vital to your skin’s health. Before you leave your house every morning, put on a face lotion with at least SPF 15. Whenever you’re out in the sun, remember to put on your sunscreen before you head outside and bring the bottle with you to reapply. There are plenty of great sunscreen options that do a great job without making your skin feel overly greased up. Give our office a call for recommendations.
- Drink lots of water.
The benefits of water are vast and deep. It’s good for your organs, good for your skin, good for your weight, and just generally vital to your overall health. We tend to let ourselves get dehydrated in the summer, not realizing how much moisture we lose through our skin when the sun is out. Keep your skin feeling nourished and resilient by drinking 64 ounces of water every day.
- Treat sun damage as early as possible.
If you realize that you got a little (or a LOT) pink today, reach for that aloe vera right away. Using natural products to soothe burns and restore moisture to your skin will help your sunburn heal more quickly and help prevent unsightly peeling. Just remember not to put your usual lotion on burns. That will trap the heat of the burn in your skin and only add to your discomfort. Aloe vera is a much better option.
- Exfoliate.
Regularly exfoliating your skin will help clear away dead cells and dirt that have the tendency to accumulate, making skin feel less smooth and beautiful. Face masks at home once or twice a week are great, and a regular facial is a wonderful and beneficial treat.
